I moved to Hickory w my best friend (and roommate) 2 years ago. We are not a couple. Like, srsly, no romantic weirdness. We each have an upstairs bdrm, but there’s a great bedroom — it’s the original master; the whole u/s is a recent renovation — downstairs, w a full adjacent bath. Those areas would be totally private to you. You have access to the entire rest of the downstairs, too; my personal highlights are the library w a drafting table & the incredibly cool front porch.
Me. So I was a commercial writer all my life. I worked for Ogilvy & Mather in London & Hong Kong, and Serino Coyne (Broadway shows & plays) in NYC. Then I got an MA & moved to the Berkshires in western MA. I continued to freelance until the pandemic when nobody advertised. I dunno; I’m fun, outgoing, eccentric, opinionated, and really not a very good Southerner even tho I was born & raised in Greensboro.
My roommate and bff is “a retired engineer, who likes to keep to himself, is friendly, outgoing & very gregarious.” Made no sense to me either. He keeps regular hours, unlike myself. We’re both tolerant, flexible & respectful of others’ choices & boundaries. We are not politically aligned or even on the same planet, possibly. I’m progressive, evolved and kind. He’s kind & has a cat. I want a dog but the yard isn’t fenced. He’s from upstate NY and is a self-appointed “honorary Southerner.” In fact, he’s a Damn Yankee. I’m a self-appointed honorary New Englander😁 w a southern accent.
